Amid the civil unrest in Philadelphia, about 50 ATMs in have been blown up since Saturday by thieves attempting to steal the money inside, according to city officials.

“This is not the end,” Mayor Jim Kenney said, pointing to where the bronze statue once stood. “[Removing the statue] is not the be-all and end-all of where we need to go.”

The shutdown was announced amid ongoing protests over police brutality and the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“The peaceful protests earlier were touching showings of our collective grief,” Mayor Kenney said. “But the anger displayed now and this afternoon cannot continue.”

The vandalism follows a recent Anti-Defamation League report that found a surge in cases of anti-Semitism in the region.

The ride-hailing giant is preparing riders and drivers alike for a “new normal” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to make sure our pets don’t get overlooked in the struggle to adjust to the changes we’ve had to make in our daily routines," said Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki.
